What is DSL connection?
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) is a high-speed Internet service that competes with cable Internet to provide online access to local customers. DSL operates over standard copper telephone lines like dial-up service, but is many times faster than dial-up. In addition to being faster than dial-up, DSL does not tie up the phone line. Coexisting with telephone service in this way allows users to surf the Net and use the phone at the same time.
First check if your computer is able to go online through the modem.
There are 2 types of internet connections in DSL.
1) DHCP = In this case your computer will be able to go online when connected directly to the DSL modem. You don't need user name and password.
2) PPPOE = In this case your computer will not be able to go online when connected directly to the modem. You will be given the user name and password by ISP. Your computer will go online through the modem but you will to connect using the program. On your computer there might be icon that connects you to the Internet and the user name and password might be saved in that program.
