|You want to open the router setup page or the router configuration page.|
On this page you can check all the settings of the router.
To open the router set up, it is recommended that your computer should be connected to the router with the Ethernet cable.
If your computer is not connected to the router, then connect 1 computer to the router.
Check the IP address on that computer.
Note down the default gateway or router number.
Click Here to know how to check the IP address of the computer.
Default gateway is the IP address of the router.
Now on your computer open the Internet browser ( Internet explorer, mozilla Firefox, safari or any other internet browser)
In the address bar at the top ( where you type www.) , type the default gateway number.
For example the IP address of the router is 192.168.x.y then in the address bar delete everything and just type the number 192.168.x.y and hit go or Enter.
Do not type http:// or www , it will come up automatically.
Now it will ask you for user name and password of the router.
This is the password of the router and not the wireless network key.
Most of the router's have their own default passwords.
While setting up the router , if you have changed the password of the router then you will need to use that password.
Type the user name and password for the router and it will open the route set up.
The default password for some of the routers would be as follow.
Linksys router : User name : no user name , leave it blank , Password = admin
D-link router :User name = admin , Password = admin
Belkin router :Click Login in the upper right-hand corner of the page. The router does not ship with a password, so just click Submit.
Netgear router : User name = admin , password = password ( or 1234 for older device).
2 wire router - User name = none , password = Wireless
Actiontec router : User name = admin , password = password
Some times it happen that after typing the number in the address bar it doesn't open anything and goes to the search results.
In that case
For windows XP / 2000 / 98 / ME
click Start go to run and in the run type the number.
For example, in the run type http://192.168.x.y
For windows vista / 7
Click Start and go to start search. in the box type the number
For example, in the start search box type http://192.168.x.y
If you don't know the password of the router and the default password is also not working then in that case you will need to reset the router.
Once you reset the router, you will loose all the settings of the router and you will need to reconfigure the router from the start.
Before resetting the router try some different passwords that you use most commonly.
If that doesn't work then reset the router for 30 seconds. Unplug the power to it. plug it back in. Wait for a minute and
reconfigure the router.
