What is Easy setup key?

Easy setup key is nothing but a small flash drive which will store all the settings of your network. It comes with the Cisco Valet or E series routers. It looks like a small USB wireless adapter but it is not the wireless adapter. The wireless network adapter is a device which will connect you to the wireless network and it will convert the wired computer into wireless computer. Whereas the Easy setup key is a program which will connect the wireless computer to the network. So that means to use this key, your computers should have the wireless network adapter on your computer. It will just guide your adapter to connect to the specific secured network of particular valet or E series router network.

You can use this key only on the computer and not on the gaming devices or wireless printers. This is made only for the computer. For windows computer, your computer should use the windows wireless connection manager . And not any third party wireless utility or manager.

You can also connect to the wireless network without using the Easy set up key.

Basics:

For E series routers, you can create Easy setup key using any small flash drive which is formatted with FAT32 or NTFS file format. When you use flash drive to create Easy setup key, the program will automatically overwrite autorun.ini file on the flash driver. It will allow the program to execute automatically when you connect it to the computer. Use safely removes option when you disconnect the key form the computer.

Whenever you change any wireless setting on your valet or E series router, update the key. There is an option to update the key on the Cisco connect program on your main computer.

When you reset the Valet or E series router to the factory default settings, you can use this key to restore the old settings.

  1. My Cisco Connect accidentally was deleted and my Easy Setup Key does not seem to work. I tried to reinstall with the Cisco installation CD and it tells me that my router is already set up and does not seem to give me the option to do it again.

  2. I am trying to use the CD setup, but hopefully you have a suggestion: I am receiving errode 8007001F on a LinkSys E2000. I can connect to the internet through the modem directly, but when I connect the computer to the router, the router to the modem, i get the error message. I also need to connect a wireless laptop. I have a WEP key, I disabled the firewalls, but still nothing. Any advice?

  3. I was trying to setup my Linksys WRT120N which I bought last year but never used before. Unfortunately the CD did not work so I was looking for help to setup Linksys WRT120N manually. Thanks for your support. The technician was very good. He called me up and reconfigured the wrt120n in just 20 minutes where as I was searching for instructions for 5 hours.

  4. How do I create easy key. I am using Cisco connect to setup my cisco linksys e1000. I changed the name and the password and now it is asking me to create an easy key. Can I use any flash drive?

  5. I am using E2000 router and also created the easy setup key. It was working before and I was also to connect to the wireless on my new laptop. now I am trying to connect my frien’s laptop to the wireless network but the key is not working.

  6. I changed the wireless settings of the router using the setup page of the router. Now the Cisco connect software is not working and the Easy setup key is also not working.

  7. Easy setup key is really very good. You don’t need to do anything. It will connect automatically. The only thing is that update the key whenever you change any wireless setting.
