When do you get the error message ” Limited or no connectivity ” ?

You may get this error message when you try to connect to the wireless network on windows XP computer. What does error ”  limited or no connectivity ” means ?

It means the computer is trying to connect but it not getting IP address from the router. IP address is very important number when it comes to networking. Each and every device should have proper IP address in the network. Router is a device which can assign IP address to all the devices in the network.

There are 2 reasons for the error ” limited or no connectivity “.

  1. The DHCP server on the router is disabled or not working. You will need to check the settings of the router. Open the set up page and make sure that the DHCP server is enabled .
  2. If your network is a secured then make sure that you might not be entering the correct key or the password. If you don’t know the password or the key then you will need to open the set up page and check the wireless settings.

Follow the steps below to fix the error.

If the DHCP server is enabled and you are entering the correct network key then it should connect without any problem. However if not then you can try to assign a static IP address to that computer.

If you do not have wireless network key/password then you will need to check the wireless network settings and get the correct password.

It stays on acquiring IP address for a long time and then I get the error limited or no connectivity.
Why my computer is not getting IP address ?

    1. I think your SSID must be secured and you are not typing the correct key or password.

  22. I have the correct key. But I am still getting the error limited or no connectivity. The other laptop is connected with the same key. but this one is not connecting. The Operating system is Windows XP. What could be the reason?

    1. I think you are not getting IP address on your computer. Open the set up page and make sure that the DHCP server is enabled. Check all the settings. Make sure that the MAC filter is disabled.

My other computers are working. I have the correct key but still I am getting the same error message limited or no connectivity. DHCP server is enabled. I have a Linksys WRT54G. It is one of the old router. I was able to access the Internet before on the same computer.

    1. Your other wireless are working properly. Try to assign a static IP address to the non working laptop computer. See if that works. If not then make sure that the MAC address filter is disabled on the router. If nothing is working then try to upgrade the firmware of the router.
