When do you get this error ” No wireless networks are found in the range “?

When you try to connect to the network on a windows XP computer, sometimes you get this error message No wireless networks are found in the range of this computer, make sure that the wireless switch on your computer is turned ON. This error message means that the computer is not able to find the networks in the range.

Why Do you get the error?

There might be 3 possible reasons for this error message.

  1. Your router is not broadcasting the signals.
  2. The wireless switch on your computer might be turned OFF.
  3. The channel might not be selected properly.

How to fix the error No wireless networks are found in the range ?

As I said, there might be 3 possible reasons for this error. Make sure that the switch on your laptop is not turned OFF.  Most of the laptops have a wireless switch on the side or front panel. You need to turn it ON. If it is already turned ON then turn it OFF and turn it back ON. Try to connect again and see if that works. If not then you will need to open the set up page of the router and check the settings of the router. Make sure that the SSID broadcast is enabled. If it is enabled then try changing the channel. If that doesn’t work then try to upgrade the firmware of the router.

  1. I’ve been using an old Dell Latitude C600 laptop with XP and a Belkin 802.11g Wirless card. I’ve been connected to the internet fine for over a year when suddenly, last week, I started getting the message for “View available networks” “No Wireless networks were found in range – Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on.”
A friend came round with a laptop just to confirm that there still ARE several networks within range, and she connected no problem. But I have been unable to work out what has gone wrong with mine. Weirdly, in tinkering about, at one point I could briefly see several networks (but not the one I need to connect to), but now I am back to zero again.

  2. Getting message no networks are found in the range. My other laptop can see many SSIDs but only this old windows XP laptop can not see any.

  3. getting error message “additional log on information is required”. I am trying to connect my windows Vista laptop to the wifi and each time I try to connect, I get the same message.

  4. I have a d link WRT120N. I was able to access the Internet on my laptop before but now my laptop is not finding the network. It says no wireless networks are found in the range. I have a DELL laptop.

  7. I tried your Easy guide and now it is connected. I can access the internet my desktop.
Thanks for your help. I tried to search for the answer on the internet but I did not find the steps like yours.

  8. How can I connect? It can not find the wireless networks in the range of this computer. It is not far away from the router. It is hardly 10 feet away from the hotspot. I am actually in a cafe where I can see that other people are able to get on the Internet but mine is not.

  9. Try changing the channel on the router.
The computer is not able to pick up the signals that is why you are getting the error of no wireless networks are found in the range .
Make sure that the SSID Broadcast is enabled on your router.
If the router is very old then upgrade the firmware.

  10. I can not connect to my own SSID. I got the same error – no wireless networks are found in the range.
The wifi switch is turned on.
I am getting the same error on my another laptop too.
I think there is something wrong with the settings. I have WRT160N.

  11. My computer is definitely in the range of my WiFi at home but still getting this message.
How do I connect to wifi? The other windows Vista laptop is connected at the same place.

    1. Check the wifi switch on the laptop. It must be turned ON. It may be a sliding button on the front panel or some laptops use combination of keys to turn it ON such as Fn + F2.

  12. I have 4 laptops. All the laptops are connected and working except one laptop.
This is an old laptop running on windows XP. I get the message – no wireless networks are found in the range.
All the other computers can see the SSID and connected. The switch is also ON.
    How can I fix it.

    1. Your other computers are working that means the router is working. Turn OFF the switch and turn it back ON.
Try changing the channel on the router. restart the computer and see if it connects.

      1. I was not able to connect to my network because of the same error no wireless networks found in the range message.
Thanks for your Guide and free email support. I got it connected by changing the change and advanced settings.
