About EA6900 router

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router AC1900 (EA6900) is a simultaneous dual-band 3×3 Gigabit router with two (2) USB ports and supports a maximum of 600 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and up to 1.3 Gbps on the 5 GHz band.

EA6900 comes with three (3) external antennas for better coverage and range.  This is ideal for media-centric applications such as streaming video, gaming, and Voice over Internet Phone (VoIP).

The 2.4 GHz Network caters to devices in your network that are 802.11n (N-only) and 802.11g (G-only) or a combination of both using Mixed mode.  The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900 wireless network settings include the Mixed mode which will allow backward compatibility with Wireless-B/G/N devices.

The 5 GHz Network will only be able to cater to devices in your network that are Mixed, N-only, and AC-only.  The Mixed mode will still allow backward compatibility for 802.11a devices.

The Guest Access is an additional wireless network feature that allows your visitors at home to access the Internet but not your local network (i.e., shared storage devices, printer access).

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900 has built-in dual USB ports that can easily add Gigabytes of storage space to your network by connecting a hard drive or USB flash disk.  The dual USB ports of the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900 also allow you to set up two (2) USB printers at most on your network.

You can easily set up and manage your router, device, and wireless network with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi.  Alternatively, you may opt out of a Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Account but may still be able to configure the advanced settings on your router via the Local Access link.

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900 is built with security features to control and protect your router and your home network.  One of the security features on the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi router is its software-based firewall which is IPv4 and IPv6 compatible.  These Internet Protocols have their own firewall protection, which are enabled by default.

The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900 has one (1) USB 2.0 port and one (1) USB 3.0 port which is also backward-compatible with older versions.  The USB 3.0 speed limit can reach up to 5 Gbps. You cannot connect a USB hub to the USB port of your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900.

There are two (2) ways to set up the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router, EA6900 on the computer:

  • Smart Setup – The Smart Setup is embedded in the firmware of Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Routers, EA6200, EA6300, EA6400, EA6700 and EA6900.  It allows you to run setup from a web browser.  Setting up the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Router is made easy using the Smart Setup.  The Smart Setup Wizard is embedded in the firmware and is available even if the router does not have an Internet connection yet and the router is on factory settings. Smart Setup benefits:
    • You will not need a Setup CD or downloaded software to set up the router.
    • You also have the option to bypass the wizard and directly access the router’s interface instead.

    NOTE:  The CD included in the packaging does not contain any setup software.  It only contains your router’s documentation.

IMPORTANT:  For PPPoE users, in order to start the Smart Setup you must enter “linksyssmartwifi.com” or “192.168.1.1” on a web browser since you will not be automatically redirected to the Smart Setup wizard.

  • Manually – There is an option to bypass Smart Setup and log in straight into the web-based setup page.  On the home page of the Smart Setup, tick the I want to skip Setup and configure my router manually option and click Next.

The default IP address for this router is 192.168.1.1 and admin is the default for both Username and Password.
