Linksys WRT54G firmware upgrade

How to upgrade Linksys WRT54G router firmware :
Firmware is nothing but the software of your Linksys router. If you have Linksys WRT54G version 5 and 6 need then I will suggest you to check the current firmware verion on your router.
How to check the current firmware version:
Connect your main computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Open the setup page of the router. Click on Status tab in the right top corner. On this page you will find the current firmware version of your router.
If you have trouble connecting to the wireless network or slow speed then upgrade the Linksys WRT54g firmware.
Linksys WRT54G firmware upgrade steps:
Step 1: First download the latest firmware from Linksys website. Click here to download the firmware file. Select the proper model and version number of your router. You will find the model number along with the version number on the back side of your router.
Save the file on your main computer.
Step 2: Connect the main computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Do not ever use wireless computer to upgrade the firmware on your router. Always connect your computer with the Ethernet cable and make sure that Local area connection is enabled.
Step 3: Open Internet browser and in the address bar type the IP address of your router. The default IP address of WRT54G is 192.168.1.1. Enter the default password admin and open the setup page. If the admin password is not working then you may need to reset Linksys router to factory default settings.
Step 4: You have Linksys router setup page opened. Click on Administration tab. Click on Firmware upgrade sub tab.
Step 5: Browse the firmware file that youhave already downloaded on your computer and click on upgrade. The firmware upgrade process will start. It may take approximately 2 – 3 minutes to finish the process. Once the firmware is upgraded you will get the message Firmware upgrade successful.
If firmware upgrade is failed then reset the router and then try the process again.
Step 6: Now reset the Linksys router to factory default settings and then reconfigure it manually.

The firmware file for Linksys WRT54G version 1 to version 4 is same 4.21.4.
The Firmware file for version 5 and 6 is same 1.02.8
NOTE: Firmware file is a bin file. You can not open this file. You need to save this file and use Setup of the router to upgrade the file.

15th Jun 2012 - 4:11 amNot able to open the setup page. I have WRT54g and power light is blinking on it. Tried to access the configuration page but it is not opening. The password is not working. Also tried to reset many times.

30th Mar 2012 - 4:01 amYou are absolutely right. I was not able to stay on the Internet for more than 5 minutes. The connection was very intermittent. I updated the software and reconfigured the network. Now it is ok and much faster.
